No matter how many times I experience it, it still amazes me how much weight and stress is lifted from your shoulders when you clear clutter. And how much clearing clutter pays off financially! Clutter (defined by Webster as "disordered things that impede movement or reduce effectiveness") affects you in so many ways and often you don't realize it till it's gone!
After spending a weekend clearing clutter from my home office, the next week I booked 7 new clients. It never fails! Letting go of clutter is about letting go of the past to make room for great new opportunities to come into your life. It really works and it’s not magic, either. Clutter clearing is not about creating a foundation of positive energy that you can work with to bring new success into your life. When things get "stuck" in my business or my life...I know it's time to go on a clutter hunt. It’s time to clear out things that have become stagnant and finish things that have been left undone.
For example, one of the most important things I did to attract new clients was to "edit" my active client folders which I keep in a step file on my desk. It was so full I couldn't fit any more folders in there! I had not moved my "graduated" clients to the file cabinet in a while. So I moved 15 folders out...and voila - I had plenty of room to add new clients!
The next day my phone started to ring! The thing is you don't have to believe in it for it to work. Energy exists whether you believe in it or not. When you change the energy around you - you change your life. This is what keeps me motivated to help people clear out and make fresh starts. I love seeing how it truly changes their lives and makes them happier. I actually get high from it! I love giving people the positive energy, life skills, self-confidence and hope they experience from finally clearing clutter and learning how to deal with their stuff. It empowers them to have the life they dream of and not be stuck in the past unable to let go of stuff that really doesn’t serve them anymore.
So if you are in business, or if you are the CEO of your home, I challenge you to look around and find at least one item of clutter you can clear today to give yourself a boost of positive energy. It could be catching up with your mail, getting your To Do list in order, organizing a junk drawer, or even just dealing with all the piles of paper you have on a kitchen counter. Perhaps you can downsize the number of toys your kids have. How about starting a donate bin or bag? Just put 9 things a day in it for the next week and then donate it. Do this for a month, and you will have lightened your load considerably!
It doesn't matter what you do, just start! And see for yourself how clutter clearing really pays off! : )
